Make It Satisfying
How do we increase the likelihood our new habit will stick? Make the new habit satisfying.
What do I mean by that? “I want something sweet. I want a cookie.” If your goal is to eat healthier, what do you swap a cookie for? Cookies are sweet, crispy or chewy and often hit that “I want something sweet” target. So let’s find a SATISFYING substitute.
What about a handful of homemade trail mix. The nuts or seeds can satisfy the texture of a crispy treat and some dried craisin or other dried fruit can add the sweetness with a lot less sugar. That crunchy, salty, sweet treat will satisfy your “I want something sweet” desire.
Substitute an evening walk for a television show.
Substitute a sparkling water for a sugary drink.
Substitute a closet inventory for binge shopping.
Whatever the habit you want to change or start, ask yourself, “What will satisfy me?” Keep it simple and start small.
